Therapeutic Approaches
Some people come to me knowing that they want help, but not necessarily what kind. Others are already familiar with a particular approach and want to explore it more fully.
My work draws on several therapeutic approaches, each with a different emphasis. Sometimes one approach is used on its own. At other times, different elements may be combined according to what is most useful.
Each has particular strengths and may suit different needs. On the individual pages, I explain more about what each involves, where it can be particularly helpful, and what you might expect from working in that way.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
A gentle, body-based approach that works with the whole person. It places particular emphasis on the relational field, stillness and creating a nurturing space in which the system can settle and change.
It can be particularly helpful where pain, tension or stress are part of the picture.
Mindful Awareness
A practical way of developing greater awareness of thoughts, feelings and bodily experience, helping us notice more clearly what is happening and how we respond to it.
At its heart is the relationship we have with the present moment, and the attitudes we bring to what we notice.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
A conversational and experiential approach that focuses on changing unhelpful patterns in how we think, feel and what we do.
Rather than concentrating primarily on why something is happening, the emphasis is on noticing what helps, what hinders, and exploring different ways of responding through dialogue and experimentation.
Compassion-Focused Wellbeing (CFW)
An approach that explores how we relate to ourselves in moments of difficulty, including patterns of self-criticism, threat and emotional reactivity.
It also considers how compassion can shape the way we respond to others, particularly when things are difficult.
Not sure which approach is right for you?
You do not need to decide in advance.
If you are looking for help with something specific but are unsure which approach would be most appropriate, you may find it more useful to begin with my 1-1 Sessions page.
